5 Jewelry Fit Tips You’ll Wish You Knew Sooner

Because looking cute shouldn’t come with circulation issues.

You know the feeling.

You find the perfect bracelet. It’s cute. It’s exactly your style. You put it on and suddenly your wrist is fighting for its life.

Or the necklace that looked perfect online somehow turns into a choker when it reaches your neck.

Been there. Hated that.

And somewhere between trying to close the clasp and quietly putting it back, something else can happen too.

You start wondering if you’re the problem.

Your wrist is too big. Your neck is too wide. Your ankle isn’t “dainty” enough.

Except… maybe your body was never the problem.

Maybe we’ve just gotten way too comfortable calling one measurement “standard.”

The good news? A few measurements and a little know-how can save you a whole lot of disappointment.

Here are five things I wish more people knew before buying jewelry.

1. Measure. Don’t Guess.

We’ve all done it.

“Eh… I’m probably a standard size.”

Except apparently “standard” was designed for some mythical creature with no wrists.

Take the extra minute and measure your wrist, neck or ankle before ordering. A soft measuring tape works best, but if you don’t have one, use a piece of string and measure it against a ruler.

And don’t pull it tight. Measure where you actually want your jewelry to sit.

BloomTip: Your body measurement and your jewelry measurement are not always the same thing. You usually need a little extra room for comfort and movement.

2. Decide How You Actually Like Your Jewelry to Fit

This part gets forgotten all the time.

Two people can have the exact same wrist measurement and want completely different bracelet sizes.

Do you like your bracelet fairly close to your wrist?

Do you want it to move a little?

Or are you firmly in the “if this thing doesn’t dangle dramatically when I move my hand, what’s the point?” camp?

There is no universally perfect fit.

There’s your perfect fit.

And that matters, because jewelry shouldn’t just technically close around your body. It should feel good enough that you forget you’re wearing it.

💡 BloomTip: When you’re between sizes, think about how you actually wear your jewelry instead of automatically choosing the smaller option.

The goal isn’t to fit into the smallest size you can. The goal is to find the size that fits you.

3. Same Length Doesn’t Always Mean Same Fit

This one is sneaky.

A delicate 7-inch bracelet and a chunky 7-inch bracelet can feel completely different on the exact same wrist.

Thicker chains, larger beads and chunkier designs take up more room on the inside of the piece, which can make them feel snugger than something delicate at the same listed length.

The same idea applies to necklaces and anklets.

So don’t look at the number alone. Look at the design too.

💡 BloomTip: If you’re choosing a chunkier piece and you prefer some movement, giving yourself a little extra room can make a big difference.

4. Bracelets Shouldn’t Bite. Anklets Shouldn’t Attack.

Can we please stop pretending jewelry is supposed to be uncomfortable?

Your bracelet shouldn’t leave you counting down the minutes until you can take it off.

And your anklet shouldn’t be cutting into your ankle every time you sit down.

For bracelets, start with your actual wrist measurement and add room depending on whether you prefer a snug, comfortable or loose fit.

For anklets, measure around the area where you actually want the anklet to sit. Ankles vary a LOT, and placement matters.

This is exactly why BloomBelles offers more size options and flexible sizing on many of our pieces.

Because “one size fits most” has been doing entirely too much for entirely too long.

And when “most” doesn’t include you often enough, it’s very easy to start feeling like you’re the exception.

You’re not.

There are just a whole lot more bodies in this world than there are sizes on most jewelry racks.

BloomTip: Check the Fit Guide before ordering. Those extra 30 seconds can save you from an annoying return later.

5. Your Fit Can Change Throughout the Day

Bodies do body things.

Heat, activity, travel and even just the time of day can affect how snug your jewelry feels.

That bracelet that feels perfect first thing in the morning might feel a little different after you’ve spent six hours outside in July.

And that’s normal.

Your body changing throughout the day isn’t something you need to fight. Your jewelry just needs enough room to change with it.

If you know you tend to swell around your wrists or ankles, give yourself enough room that your jewelry is still comfortable later in the day.

💡 BloomTip: Comfort beats squeezing into a smaller size just because you think that’s the size you’re supposed to wear.

Every. Single. Time.

One Last Thing

Your jewelry is supposed to decorate your body.

Your body is not supposed to change to accommodate your jewelry.

That’s the whole reason BloomBelles exists.

We offer size-inclusive options and flexible sizing across much of our collection because wrists, necks and ankles don’t magically come in one standard size.

So measure yourself.

Choose the fit you actually like.

And if the standard size doesn’t work for you?

That doesn’t mean there’s something wrong with your body.

It means you need better jewelry. ♡
